The USDOT is working towards finding safe parking for our truck drivers nationwide which is essential for highway safety and supply chain order. An average of 98% of drivers take roughly an hour of their time trying to find a parking area to stop when they are running out on their hours which ultimately cuts into transit time. This has been increasingly more important as we have more drivers coming into the industry who are new and women drivers who have cited the lack of safe and well-lit options. This will shift the freight industries demographics and will commission more drivers to join the industry to cut down on the driver shortage we have been facing since Covid-19 began.
Florida and Tennessee were the first to be awarded the INFRA (Infrastructure for Rebuilding America) grant funded by USDOT under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funds go towards the beneficial parking projects across the country. What states are next to jump on this?
